Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR)

Because of growing populations, demands for water continue to increase in Washington, despite drought conditions. These demands have not only led to conflicts between water users but they have also contributed to endangering fish, partly because the amount of high-quality water in streams has decreased during summer months. As a result, state regulations are keeping more water in streams, reducing the supplies available for drinking and irrigation.

ASR offers water providers an attractive option for meeting their demands year-round without expanding costly infrastructure. Many providers face dry-season demands that exceed supplies and wet-season supplies that exceed demands. ASR allows them to store high-quality water underground during periods of low demand or excess supply and then to withdraw it during peak summer months, when people need it most.

Pacific Groundwater Group has helped clients assess the feasibility of using ASR to meet their water demands. Our expertise in the areas of groundwater hydraulics and chemistry has also been integral to designing and implementing ASR solutions.

We encourage you to browse through a few case studies to learn about some of our ASR projects.
